Managing Co-occurring Disorders

The Change Companies® has taken a national leadership role in providing evidence-based materials to assist in meeting the unique needs of the co-occurring disorders population. Managing Co-occurring Disorders: an integrated approach utilizes our experience and expertise in assisting these individuals in making positive and lasting changes.

Through the use of Interactive Journaling®, this cognitive-behaviorally-based series provides structure, knowledge and coping strategies to individuals who have co-existing mental health and substance-related conditions in a single resource. It also addresses the needs of individuals who are facing legal problems resulting from criminal behavior.

Journaling activities move participants from knowledge acquisition to the practical application of skills to guide behavior change. Individuals are given opportunities for self-expression and exploration in a positive, productive manner.

The Change Companies® recognizes the diversity of participants’ experiences, attitudes and behaviors. We understand that flexibility is an important factor in meeting the individual needs of participants. The modular format of the series allows programs to determine which of the 12 topics best meet their populations’ needs.

The versatility of the Managing Co-occurring Disorders: an integrated approach series:

• The series capitalizes on the most effective change models for co-occurring disorders.

• Journal content is application-focused and features a variety of skill-building activities.

• The modular format allows programs to select those Journal topics most relevant to their populations’ needs.

• In addition to co-occurring disorders, the series addresses criminogenic factors for individuals involved in the criminal justice system.

• Facilitator Guides offer assistance in Journal content delivery in a user-friendly format.

• Key program skills are reinforced through the use of five tear-off pads.
