Jan Coates knows firsthand the unspeakable evil women and girls suffer every day. As a child she was repeatedly raped and abused by those who should have cared for her. Emotionally and physically wounded, she groped her way into adulthood and at the lowest point in her life, called out for God’s healing grace. Through his love, she experienced a miraculous transformation. To share her experience, Coates released the book “Set Free: God’s Healing Power for Abuse Survivors and Those Who Love Them.” So that her book might have a broader impact, The Salvation Army partnered with The Change Companies® to develop a companion Reflection Journal. Set Free gives the stories of six women who, with God’s help, found their way through the healing process. The companion Interactive Journal follows the chapters in the book, providing reflective writing opportunities and other activities that will help readers personalize the information – apply it to their own lives and healing process. These tools are specifically designed to help those who suffer depression, hopelessness, low self-esteem, anti-social behavior, drug abuse and promiscuity, among other things, as a result of child abuse.
Chances are, there are significant numbers of women in your organization who will benefit from the Set Free Program.
