The choice is mine

When I’m just sitting around, often outside in the shade, I ask myself: What the heck happened?

Why do I live in this house, in this town?

Why am I wearing this pair of faded jeans and this old checkered shirt?

Why, after 30 years, do I still go to work for this company?

Why do I have these grandkids?

I can go on and on. The questions keep popping into my head. Why am I the person I am today?

Since entering my 70s, I do this mental exercise more often and come up with the same answer. In most cases, I made choices, many small ones and a few big ones.

If I wish to complete my life in a self-satisfying manner, it’s important for me to remember this: I’m still the guy making the choices to determine what happens next.
