Do you have an evening ritual that takes you from your daily duties to your nighttime bliss?

I do.

I take off my socks, and I’m a different guy. I wiggle my toes. My naked feet embrace the cool hardwood floor of my bedroom. I’m a free man, ready to do nothing special. And that feels marvelous. I smile more when I’m barefoot. I’m more creative, stress free and playful.

My buddy Jalen asks, why do I wear socks in the first place?

It’s my mother’s fault. She made me put on socks all the time while I was growing up. “Don, you don’t go out of this house without your socks on. Do you hear me?”

I could never shake her rule.

On second thought, six decades later I have her to thank. If I didn’t put my socks on each morning, I could never experience the ecstasy of removing them at night.
