Younger, mindless me

Last night, I pulled out one of my old journals. It was from a time long ago when I recognized I had made some big mistakes. I was in trouble. However, never a person who lacked aplomb, I had a grandiose plan to fix everything.

I wish the older, wiser me today could have advised the younger, mindless me.

Younger, mindless me: “I have a master plan to revamp my life forever.”

Older, wiser me: “Did you ask for help in creating this master plan?”

Younger, mindless me: “Hell, no. I got myself in this hole, and it’s up to me to get out of it.”

Older, wiser me: “You might want to talk to someone smarter than you. There’s lots of them out there.”

Younger, mindless me: “Just listen. Here’s my year one plan.”

Older, wiser me: “I’d prefer to hear about your rest-of-the-day plan.”

Younger, mindless me: “And what makes you such an expert on my life?”

Older, wiser me (with a wry smile): “Because I lived it.”
