Okay. It may not be as dramatic as secondhand smoke, but other people's stress can be contagious, and harmful to your health. Empathizing with someone else's stress can generate the same physical effects within your own body. These effects have been shown to carry all of the same health risks that our own chronic stress and anxiety do. The good news is, you can manage secondhand stress the same way: meditation, breathing and exercise.
This week, I will recognize that others' stress is my own and will take a moment to treat it as my own.
